Although humans have been doing all kinds of sports for centuries, we never seem to run out of new ideas on how to exercise.
At the fitness and health trade fair FIBO 2019 in Cologne, Germany, that once again became obvious.
Here’s an overview of some of the latest trends in fitness:
This isn’t exactly a new trend, but one that continues to gain traction.
It usually involves jumping on a trampoline very fast – but this seems to have been too easy for Austrian sports equipment company Alpha Champ, which has combined three trampolines for one person to jump between as part of System Lateral Rebound Training.
An interactive playground from Canada allows children to throw balls at a projected wall, thus training their throwing ability and teaching the kids about a specific topic.
One game involves kids throwing balls at numbers, colours or shapes.
The targeted age range for this product is between five and 15 years old.
Using the floor
The Spanish company Pavigym has created a system called Prama Push Play, which lets users create a fitness studio on the floor.
You can project circles and squares of all kinds onto the floor, which you then use to jump around in or run across.
What looks like a colourful playground is actually a complex fitness system for adults, which includes integrated light systems and tracking.
Aqua pole dancing
Pole dancing has long left the red-light district behind, with many fitness studios offering courses for those interested.
Now the poles have also entered the water, creating the new genre aqua pole dancing.
This is an easier option for beginners, as people can usually achieve movements in water that they never dreamed of on land.
In the Netherlands, they’ve come up with the concept of Bungee Super Fly, which lets people hang from the ceiling from thick ropes.
Up there, you can swing around and do 360-degree twists – and the floor is only ever a few centimetres away. – dpa
