Two cousins from Lupane were recently arrested after they kidnapped and raped a 13-year-old girl for three days in separate incidents.
John Mpofu (20) and Nkosiyapha Sibanda (26) allegedly took turns to rape the girl, who cannot be mentioned, after the former had kidnapped her.
Mpofu and Sibanda separately appeared before Lupane resident magistrate Ndumo Masuku on Friday.
Allegations are that on the 15th of August, Mpofu forcibly took the young girl to his place of residence where he locked her up in a bedroom hut.
Mpofu allegedly had sexual intercourse with the complainant without her consent for 3 consecutive days.
On the third day, the girl luckily managed to escape. However, her bid for freedom was short-lived as she bumped into Sibanda on her way home.
Sibanda dragged her to his place of residence and on the way, Sibanda allegedly accused her of fleeing from Mpofu’s homestead.
The court heard that, upon arrival at his home, Sibanda allegedly took the girl to his bedroom hut where he forcibly had sexual intercourse with her once.
After being held captive and sexually abused by the two accused, the girl was only rescued by her relatives who had been searching for her.
The girl’s relatives reported the matter to the police leading to Mpofu and Sibanda’s arrest.
They were however not formally charged with rape when they appeared in court. Magistrate Masuku remanded Mpofu and Sibanda in custody to September 9.
